51 There are conflicting sources that have Margaret being the first (and only) child of Osborn Spring, Sr. and Elizabeth Morris, and other being the daughter of Edward Spring and Elizabeth Pile.

My theory is that both are true in some way. Margaret was born on March 20, 1726/7. Elizabeth Morris died in 1727. I believe Elizabeth died from complications of childbirth. Margaret was likely given to Osborn's brother Edward to take care of the newborn, especially since Elizabeth Pile was likely nursing a new child of their own.

Shortly after thereafter Osborn remarried Rachel Belt and started a new family almost immediately. It is not unreasonable to speculate that Elizabeth Pile bonded with the motherless baby and the new Osborn/Rachel family preferred to start with a clean slate.

Ironically, Margaret would go on to marry her step-mother Rachel's younger brother (by 16 years).
Belt, Margaret Sprigg (I1354)

52 There is significant confusion about this Mary Ebbert. However, I am convinced she is the daughter of Peter Ebbert of Fulda, OH after studying the records thoroughly. I want to take this opportunity to document the confusing evidence.

Mary shows up in the 1850 census as part of the Peter Ebbert household in Wheeling, WV. Peter subsequently moves the family to a new German community that is forming in Fulda, OH. Many Germans from Fulda, Germany begin migrating there around this time.

She shows up being married on the same day on 3 Sep 1867 to both a George and a Gregory Ebbert (all names are spelled "Ebert"), but I believe it this is a clerical error and the actual name is Ebbert in the case of this family. According to Fulda, OH historians, "Mary moves to Wheeling".

Mary and George show up in the 1870 Wheeling census with 1-year old John, born around 1868. This couple disappears from all records hence.

A Mary and Gregory show up in the 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 census with a child born around 1868. There are various discrepancies year-year on years married (1863, 1866).

Immigration records show Gregory coming to America in 1860 and being naturalized in 1863. He is from Fulda, Germany.

Census records show Mary was born in WV and that her mother immigrated from Fulda, Germany in 1836. Her maiden name was "Schoeppner".

Mary's death certificate list her mother as being born in Germany and maiden name is "Schafer" which is probably a clerical error or that the family didn't know how to pronounce Schoeppner.
Ebbert, Mary (I821)

53 There is some debate about whether Margaret's maiden name is Mariate or Osbourne. Osbourne is a well-known sir name in Northamptonshire, England. And the number of descendants named Osbourne raises the possibility of a familial connection to the Osbourne's. Sprigg, Margaret Mariate (I1261)

54 Various maiden names have been found:

Daughter Kate's death certificate shows Stetzer
Daughter Mary's shows Schlitzer

Schnell also shows up is some places. Consultation with marriage certificate would be useful which should be at Ohio County archives. The following volume was cited:

Ohio County Marriages 1866-1870

Ebbert, Caroline Schnell (I162)

55 Various occupations in his life.

Worked at parents dairy farm near Oglebay Park. Then became a grocer, moved to Greggville and became postmaster. Then stone mason and later worked with road construction.
Family: Ebbert, John Benedict / Ebbert, Mary Garrity (F280)

56 Very similar to another Frank Ebbert who was the same age, but the child of Jacob and Elizabeth Ebbert. Frank here is mis-listed as "Ebbert" in WV Vital records. Both children show up in the records, so it is assumed these are two different people. Ebbert, Frank (I906)
